Straight out of the Box

So you just got your fancy new Silhouette!! How exciting! Now to learn ALL THE THINGS 😉 lol! But really – here are some tips for those of you who just opened their shiny new machine!

Let me tell you Step 1 – BREATHE! Do NOT let this process overwhelm you. Everything will take you SOO long to do and it will be a little difficult, but stick with it and you will get faster! T-shirts used to take me an hour or 2 for design and then cutting and pressing (with an iron) – but now I can sit down and from start of a design to the t-shirt being done take less than 30 mins!

Step 2 – Focus on learning 1 thing at a time. There are SOOO many things I want to jump in an tell you how to do, what not to do and where to start – but the most important thing is to start small and simple and build from there.

Step 3 – Download the software – no matter what you are using the software for right now, don’t go full in and buy the designer or business edition – work up to those. Just start with the free straight of the CD software. This will ensure that you start your process right! Not spending money before you make it back from the machine you just bought.

Step 4 – Revert back to step 1 for a moment – this is important through the process because the software can get frustrating.

Step 5- Plug in your beautiful new toy, make sure it connects to your software, and click on the silhouette store. Sign up to save your items in the cloud – I Recommend a backup of your files as this will be important down the road. You can choose to spend your free money at this point – but please note as soon as you plug in that number the count down is on and in 30 days your money with the store will expire.

Step 6 – Once you are setup, step away and think up your first project (nothing too big or extravagant) and come back here for tips and tricks on how to accomplish!

–Items I learned the hard way from this point:

*I entered my free money in the silhouette store too soon and the money expired 😦

*I didn’t do this process before hand and was scrambling to download, learn and do my first project all in the same hour — WAY TOO STRESSFUL

*Don’t offer projects for others that you would not even do for yourself. Save ALL the hard stuff for yourself
