Lashes- To Dye or Not to Dye

That is the question!! Lol – But really, I LOVE dying my eyelashes. As most of you know, I had eyelash extensions for at least 3 years. I LOVED them but I hated the money going out, the time it took for upkeep and the itching when I could tell that they were lashed wrong. Over the 3 years doing them I don’t ever feel like I found a lash consultant that did a great job. I always got to a point where they were itching or a ton were falling out so it was always a dance of me being happy and then extremely upset with them a week later.

When I took off my lashes I had ZERO lashes. I wanted a little bit of the look like my natural lashes were black and full without mascara. I wanted to keep mascara off them for a while to help them grow out faster because lets face it, mascara does damage your lashes. You have to rub it off and that can cause them to fall out, etc. So I looked into dying them. I am a CHEAPSKATE, like I dye my own hair with the pull through cap still, so I definitely was NOT paying to have them died. I will tell you from experience… BUY A KIT FOR DYING LASHES! I had black dye and toner on hand and tried it that way and my eyes were burning and I am lucky I can still see. FOR REAL. Here is the BEST I have found:

This pack is really great and easy to use! The drops come out fast so be careful and when you are mixing the drops and the black dye it will take an extremely long time of stirring for them to actually come to a good pasty consistency, but just keep stirring 🙂

I do them myself – Here is my before and after (before on the top and after on the bottom). I love to feel like I have mascara on even when I don’t. Now this does try to dye all the lashes but it takes a couple rounds for it to really look full. You can dye 2 times in a row (I would do 1 today and 1 tomorrow – not in the same day) to make them super dark, or just go a month in between and know that next month they will look darker.

I hadn’t dyed mine in about 4 months in the before pic above, so this is probably close to the results you will get because I don’t have any residual dye on them. I do 1 eye at a time, because again I am doing them myself and it’s hard to do both eyes. The box says to put the eye protector on with Vaseline – this is great but make sure to not get the vaseline on your lashes. I use a q-tip and apply it all over my skin so that the dye doesn’t stick to anything but the lases and then I put the protector pad on.

This also instructs you to brush the top lashes down onto the pad under your eye – I do this a little differently. I put a pad on the under eye – brush the dye into the bottom lashes and then I put a pad (more vaseline all over the eyelid) on the top eye so that I can brush the dye on the top lashes down the the pad below for a couple swipes, but then I brush the dye into the top lashes up towards the eyelid with the natural lash curve. I think this helps not to have the dye drag down the lashes and have them pointed straight out or down at the end of the process. I feel like this helps curve them up a little.

I use the stick and a q-tip to apply the dye, there should be plenty for both eyes, so cake that stuff on there!

After 15 mins (I use the whole time allowed) just rinse it off… This is typically when my eyes burn a little, but after a min it will stop and it’s not near the burn that I felt when I used the wrong products. Life lesson learned there!

It really just darkens your lashes to black. Which is amazing for me because mine are light brown and blonde- so they look like they aren’t there without mascara!

On the pic above – the right side is no mascara and the left is with mascara 1 coat. I just think it helps with that no makeup look!
